Dear Student Leader,
Thank you for your interest in joining the Associated Student Government. We are thrilled that you are taking a step towards making a difference at College of the Canyons through a leadership position. We hope that this letter answers some questions you may have regarding the ASG. Before you move onto filling out the application, please make sure to review the information on this page to prepare yourself for the application.
We’ve prepared links below for you to review for you to better understand what it means to be in ASG and what you need to know as an ASG Candidate.
What will your time commitment look like?
Summer
While it is rare for the Associated Student Government to gather for a Senate meeting, special circumstances may arise for the group to have an official meeting to address an issue or to approve an action item. It is important that you check your student e-mails consistently throughout the summer in case this happens.
ASG Training occurs in August before the start of the Fall semester and is mandatory for all officers. Dates and times will be announced before the end of the Spring 2026 semester to give officers ample time to figure out their work schedules or to notify the ASG advisors if there are any conflicts.
Fall/Spring
Please note that we expect ASG Officers to fulfill their roles for the entire 2026 - 2027 term.
ASG Senate meetings are scheduled for every Wednesday at 2:30pm. We ask all ASG officers to block out their Wednesday afternoons (2:30pm to 4pm). ASG Senate meetings run for one hour, however there are other meetings (Activity Board, Joint Meetings with the Executive Cabinet, etc.) that may directly follow after the Senate meeting adjourns.
The Vice President of the Inter Club Council will be required to chair the Inter Club Council meetings which occur once or twice a month. These meetings are regularly scheduled on Monday afternoons at 2pm.
All ASG Officers are required to fulfill 8 office hours a week. This time is used for ASG officers to complete their tasks. The meetings mentioned above do not count towards office hours. Officers are required to fulfill 16 office hours per semester at the Canyon Country Campus. The Associated Student Government represents ALL COC students and this requirement is made in an effort to establish student representation on both campuses. An officer who finds it difficult to fulfill this requirement must discuss alternatives with an ASG Advisor. More will be explained during the Summer ASG Training.
