Theatre - Audition Form

This is the College of the Canyons' Theatre Department Audition Form. Please use this form to be considered for our   SPRING 2025 musical production of NINE TO FIVE directed by Matt McCray.

We are currently planning for In-Person instruction and live performances for the production; however, we continue to monitor the evolving landscape and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community. Should conditions require, we will adjust accordingly as per the LACDPH and District protocols. Performers of all ethnicities and identities are invited and encouraged to audition for this production.

Please take your time to complete the document. Once submitted, please be sure to upload your audition to the link on the last page.

COC AUDITION AND CASTING

Once casting is announced, cast members will need to register for the required course within 72 hours of the first rehearsal or they may be dropped from the cast. Please see the “REGISTRATION FAQs” on the COC THEATRE WEBSITE: https://www.canyons.edu/academics/theatre/auditions/index.php

Our auditions are open to everyone and from time to time, people auditioning might have a professional affiliation (SAG, AEA, etc.) College of the Canyons CAN NOT and will not contract with any professional union for our student productions. It is the responsibility of those with professional affiliations to determine if they are eligible to participate as part of a community college production. Restrictions placed on people by their respective professional affiliations might affect casting eligibility.

Anyone who is cast and is not already a student, will need to enroll at COC prior to registering for the class. Please be aware that there may be additional fees (registration, activities fees, etc.) required if you are not currently a COC student. Please check with admissions and records for a complete breakdown of the cost of enrollment. Please refer to ADMISSIONS (661) 362-3280 for more details.

This is a musical and may require signing, dancing, moving props or set pieces.  The play contains references to drugs, adult situations, and some foul language

SCHEDULING & CONFLICTS

Please read the following outline of the production schedule.

Scheduled Rehearsal Times:
Tuesday 6:30PM-9:30 PM (lab)
Wednesday, Thursday: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Students who have COC class conflicts with the above times may be prevented from registering for the associated class. All students participating in the production must be registered for an appropriate class at College of the Canyons.

Technical Rehearsal Times:

  • April 11 6:00 -10:00 PM (Sitzprobe) 

  • April 12 9:00am - 1:00pm & 2pm - 5:00 PM (Tech) 

  • April 14 5:30 -10:00 (2nd Tech) 

  • April 15 5:30 -10:00 PM (Add Makeup) 

  • April 16 5:30 -10:00 PM (Final Dress) 

Performances:

  • April 17 at 7:00 PM  

  • April 18 at 7:00 PM 

  • April 19 at 2:00 PM (Special NC Theatre Appreciation for Older Adults

  • April 19 at 7:00 PM 

  • April 20 at 2:00 PM 

  • Strike: April 22 6:00 – 10:00 PM 

  • Student Debrief April 23 at 6:30 PM 

*Student performers and technical crew may be called up to 2 hours before the actual performance time.

AUDITION (Self tape)

To audition for this production, you must record and submit a self-tape. The prepared audition will need to be self-recorded and uploaded after filling out this form.  Please include:

  • If auditioning for the Spring Musical, Please prepare 32 bars of a song (about 60 seconds). If possible, use an accompaniment or karaoke track.  If you play an instrument, please use that for accompaniment.
  • If auditioning for the Fall production, please prepare a 1 minute monologue.
  • Label your file with your name (Last-First) as entered from the form above.

  • To complete your audition, you MUST complete and submit BOTH this form and your audition recording.
  • You will receive a confirmation after completing your audition. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, please email theatre@canyons.edu.
